The virtual world has captivated us, compelling to ignore our real world.

One evening I was chatting with my Facebook friends. Suddenly, my wife pinpointed that I have a childhood friend who stays just two blocks away, and I have not met him for weeks.

How deep is the obsession of being online, fretting us from being offline?

We are spending umpteen moments of our life lingering on social media platforms, sacrificing our real world at the cost of the virtual world.

I miss the early 2000’s era of multimedia phones. It was a privileged time. We had limited choices of phone calls, SMS, and one odd game to play.

It meant post-work, minimum time on the phone, and full access to family. Unfortunately, it is vice versa today.

Family Is a Priority

My father used to switch off the internet and only received calls once back from work. His evenings were only for his family and friends.

My parents often reprimanded me for using the phone during family time.

Even today, we follow stringent rules of keeping away phones when at lunch and dinner tables.
